Where does our wood come from? Our coffin and British casket manufacturer uses only solid or veneer timber that comes from renewable forests, managed on a sustained yields basis. Our American manufacturer of timber caskets, plants and manages the growth of one new tree for every casket they make.
How is Chipboard made? Forest timber residues created during the forestry timber process and re-cycled timber is mixed with a special resin and pressed to make chipboard. The board used in our coffin manufacture is of E1 grade and contains virtually no formaldehyde.
How are our coffins produced? The modern systems adopted by our manufacturer ensures the total re-cycling of wood waste which is re-used in chipboard manufacture ensuring that all the raw material is used.
How are our coffins polished? The Environmental Protection Act 1990 specifies a reduction of solvent emissions. Our coffin manufacturer uses the best methods available and is fully compliant with the Act using new water based compliant polishes.
What else are we doing for the environment? We ensure that all our cardboard waste is recycled and our coffin manufacturer through donations and membership of the Woodland Trust helps to protect and enlarge Britain’s natural forests.
What is FSC? The Forestry Stewardship Council promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests. Their logo identifies products that are manufactured from timber extracted from forests that are independently certified to be managed in accordance with the rules of the Forestry Stewardship Council. All our wood effect coffins carry this certification and the solid timber and British casket range are currently in the process of being accredited. Can other materials be used for coffins? We offer a range of other environmentally friendly products in our Woodland Selection. These are manufactured from willow, cardboard, harvested fast growing pine and bamboo all of which are sustainable products and their use has minimal effect on the environment. |
