Funeral Wishes

It is important for those thinking about their own funeral or the funeral of a loved one to determine what it is they are trying to achieve. If the only matter of concern is ensuring that after death someone knows their wishes in terms of their preferred funeral, then the financial aspects are not something that needs to be considered and members of the family can simply be told, I would like a burial or cremation, or, other matters such as the place of ceremony, the hymns, the coffin or the celebrant, etc if these are important.

A simple way of ensuring this is to complete a My Funeral Wishes document which gives the opportunity to specify as much or as little detail as you feel is necessary and important to you. Once completed a copy of the document should be handed to whoever is going to arrange the funeral on your death, be it your next of kin or executor, and it is a good idea to also send a copy of your wishes to your selected funeral director.

Please remember that this is a no cost option which merely gives your instructions in terms of the funeral, but the cost of the funeral will need to be met from your estate or by those arranging the funeral at the time.
